Mom’s Calling – New Burger Bar at Baker’s Corner

Mom’s Burger Bar –  Brothers Eoin and Hugh O’Reilly have long been known as Dublin’s king egg slingers, with their much loved brekkie bar, Mad Yolks. They have popped up in bars like The Barber’s, The Forth Corner and the pandemic even seen them find a home in Eagle House, Glasthule. 

Mad Yolks is on the move again with exciting news hopefully not too far away, but the egg brothers have been working hard to convert their breakfast bap skillage, into something a bit thicker between the buns.  

Mom’s Burger Bar is the new Glasthule burger joint that is starting to pop-up on our feeds more and more. Located in the popular Baker’s Corner Bar, diners can wet their whistle while chowing down on a Buffalo Chicken Sando.

The menu includes Classic Burgers, Fried Chicken Sandos, Buffalo Tenders and even Mom’s chilli recipe features on the Chilli Cheese Fries, which are excellent btw. 

We smashed some of the crispy coated tendies (with a selection of dips) and loved not only the juicy chicken, but the sheer size of these is class. Chicken tenders done right!

The burgers are big, juicy and worth a visit to Deansgrange. The signature Mom’s burger is quite the spectacle with generous amounts of caramelized onion and smoked streaky bacon on top.

“Moms is all about classic American diner food. The kinda stuff Guy Fieri dreams about. We wanted to focus on the classics; burgers, fried chicken, no frills – but done to a seriously high standard” says owner Eoin.

People of Dún Laoghaire, Blackrock, Stillorgan, Sandyford, Cabinteely and Dalkey can all try Mom’s at home through Just Eat. Or if you’re in the mood for a burger and a beer, drop by Baker’s Corner Mon – Fri 4-9pm & Sat -Sun 1-9pm.

Burgers are a beautiful thing. The layering of ingredients to create an epic stack of juicy goodness is surely one of our greatest food creations. It’s no wonder some of the best culinary minds in the country all want to create their own masterpiece.

Dash & Allta

If you follow Dublin Social, you will have by now heard of Shiitake Miso Butter. This is a condiment from the gods, and the gods are Allta.

Allta is one of our favourite restaurants in all of Ireland and today marks the launch of their collaboration with Dash Burger. Dash opened it’s 2020 and has teached many a burger lover about the smash burger technique of cooking. The Sambo Ambo & Cali Cali

The buzz around the soon to be opening food market – Dine Town – is growing nicely, as the old horse and cart yard of The Iveagh Gardens will soon be home to multiple food trucks. Dublin Social has had a sneak peak at the list and it is reading deliciously.  The Sambo Ambo leads the way as food truck No.1 and their collaboration with Cali Cali is a little bit special.

WingMan & JP McMahon

Dublin Social recently visited WingMan in Kilbarrack to check out one of their burger collabs, The Filty Trio with Higgin’s Butchers and Gaz Smith of Michael’s. This ranked on the best burgers I have ever consumed with Michael’s Beef Butter & Bone Marrow Glaze adding so much flavour.

This week, WingMan has looked to the west for inspiration, with JP McMahon the latest to collaborate on a special burger. JP is the Galway’s Mr Food. A Micehlin star at Aniar, incredible tapas at Cava Bodega and wonderful small paltes and natural wines at Tartare are some of his offerings in the city.

JP is also the man behind the Internation Chef Conference Food On The Edge and penned the critically acclaimed The Irish Cookbook.

The Farmer burger encapsulates JP’s philosophy of good food, sourced locally by artisan producers.” Available at WingMan for the month of May.

Bujo & Eric Matthews

Bujo and its culinary director Grainne O’Keefe, have set the bar high for burger collabs, teaming up with big names like BBQ supremos Derek Wolfe and Nick Solares.

The next collaboration is with talent much closer to home, as Eric Matthews brings his super busy apron to Sandymount. Eric is head chef at Michelin star restaurant, Chapter One, and over the last year has became a social star with his at home cooking show, Cabin Fever Classics.

Coming to Bujo on Thursday May 6th is The Cabin Fever Classic. Two chargrilled grass-fed beef patties, Cooley cheese, slow- roasted tomato confit, crispy onions and oozing of decadence in the form of Café de Paris mayonnaise.

Bujo recently announced they are soon to open their second location in Castleknock. Dublin 15 is about to get some bangin’ burgers!

Featherblade Triumphs In The Dublin Burger Championship

Featherblade Triumphs In The Dublin Burger Championship

Burgers are big business and everyone has their favourite. The Dublin Burger Championship put 16 of those favourites against each other in a knockout style tournament to see who would come out on top. After 4 days of voting and over 20,000 votes Featherblade was crowned king, overcoming Wowburger in the final by the slimmest of margins. The popular Dawson Street restaurant and No.5 seed – well known for its excellent steaks – advanced to the final after 3 tough match ups against Farmer Browns, Box Burger and the powerhouse No.1 seed that is Bunsen in a closely contested semi final.

All burgers use their signature patty made from smoked brisket, aged striplion & chuck taken off grass fed Irish Angus. Was it the use of Applewood Smoked Sweet Bacon that sealed the deal though? Featherblade are currently offering a Bacon Cheeseburger box at home and many have commented on the wonderful bacon that comes with it. Dj and foodie funny guy Marcus O’Laoire joked he would like to be in a relationship with the thick cut pork and we can understand his desire after our own creation at home.

Wowburger were unlucky to miss out on the title after coming through their own tight semi final with BuJo but the championship and The Dublin Patty Cup is Featherblade’s for 2020.
