A bold as brass move, Dublin Social visits the coffee truck launching new edible coffee cups.

Over the last 12 months, the pandemic has brought with it a new coffee obsession that has swept the nation. Can’t go the pub? Grab a flat white!

One of the biggest issues that has been highlighted, is the increase in throwaway cups. Cafes stopped accepting reusable cups as a covid precaution and even though most cups are now biodegradable, cups have become a massive issue for both waste and litter.

Bold & Brass opened in February at Social Uí Chonaill CLG in Clontarf and has people queuing along the coast ever since.

Owner Kevin Ryan, puts sustainability at the core of everything Bold & Brass do, “Growing up on a farm, I learned to appreciate nature and how to care for the environment in different ways. Becoming a geography teacher then I suppose, solidified my interest in all
things natural. I’m constantly teaching the kids in school how they can all make little changes to help the planet, like ditching the plastic water bottles for reusable ones etc. The edible coffee cup is just another one of those little changes we can all make.”.

The cups are vegan, 100% natural and mainly made up of cereals. They stay firm for 30 minutes and taste like a coffee soaked hard wafer. All this saving the planet comes in at only 56 calories!
